Inspiration

Time on the water is essential to my process of creating art. While fishing, I am visually collecting images that I will later hand-tool and paint on my mural sculptures. These images reflect the passion and beauty of angling. At first glance, the lines, textures and colors of the fish are dramatic. Upon further viewing, the imagery reveals a story. One of my favorite stories to capture is that of the steelhead. On leather I recreate its marvelous journey from egg to adult. Swimming past predators, the young smolt leaves the river and enters the ocean to feed on squid and bait fish, finally returning to its place of birth to start the cycle of life once more. The added mural scenes connect me and the viewer to the fish, and the beautiful environments they inhabit.

See you on the water,

Lance
