Readers' Fishing Log: Salmon
From Russia, with love

Writer and photographer Jeff Bright (lower left) and leather fish sculptor Lance Boen (upper left and above) traveled from their California homes to the Ryabaga Camp on Russia's Ponoi River last July. These two steelhead chasers ventured to the remote Kola Peninsula to test their skills on Atlantic salmon and deliver one of Lance's leatherbound beauties to the camp. The sculpture was a whopping 39 inches long and now hangs above the bar in Ryabaga's dining tent. The real salmon, on the other hand, were reluctantly released.
